Important changes introduced with Fluid Checkout Lite 2.0+

Fluid Checkout Lite 2.0 has been released on 27th June 2022 with important changes that might impact your website.

In short:

• Some features moved from Fluid Checkout Lite to the PRO version.
• Upgrading to Fluid Checkout PRO is not required to keep using the moved features.
• Support for the moved features was provided for Lite users only until July 31st 2022.
• Upgrade to Fluid Checkout PRO to keep using the moved features.

Which features have been moved to the PRO version?

• Express checkout
• Local pickup
• Gift messages
• Packing lists template

The main reason why we decided to move these is to better balance the value provided by Fluid Checkout Lite and PRO versions.

We receive a lot of support tickets related to the moved features. The time spent answering these support tickets could instead be used to fix bugs, develop new features, add documentation, and provide better support in general.

Since Fluid Checkout’s first public release in June 2021, we have received exceptional feedback from you.

There have been many comments like “I still don’t know how this plugin is free“.

The thing is, it isn’t free.

Developing Fluid Checkout takes a lot of time and money.

With Fluid Checkout PRO, we are providing you with many more features and extending the great checkout experience to other parts of the purchase journey. A better cart page, order received page, view order and the address book features are just the beginning. See an overview of the PRO features.

By balancing Fluid Checkout Lite and PRO versions, we can continue to improve them and make the business sustainable so we can be here for you for years to come.

Even without these features, the Lite version still provides plenty of features for its price 🙂

What features does Fluid Checkout PRO have?

You can see all Fluid Checkout PRO features on our homepage, and there is a quick list of all features on the pricing page as well.

Are there any other changes that might impact my website?

In short, no.

There were other changes related to compatibility issues with other plugins that would have affected websites already using Fluid Checkout Lite, but we decided to keep them out since they were not really necessary.

Do I need to upgrade to the PRO version to keep using these features?

If you already have downloaded the extra plugin for the moved features, you’ll not be required to upgrade to the PRO version. You can continue to use the extra plugin for as long as you need it.

However, if you do not already have the extra plugin, access to download it and support has expired on July 31st 2022. In that case you’ll need to upgrade to Fluid Checkout PRO.

How can I keep using the moved features after updating to version 2.0+?

If you are using any of the moved features, you’ll need to install a separate plugin to keep using them.

This separate plugin is being provided at no extra cost for current users. Upgrading to the PRO version is not required.

Free support for these features and access to download the extra plugin ended on July 31st, 2022.

Further development and support for these features are only available with to the PRO version, and as such, you’ll need to upgrade to the PRO version to get the features and improvements.

Installing the extra plugin to keep using moved features

Fluid Checkout for WooCommerce – Moved features

The plugin is ready for use on Live sites. Although, as with any new plugins and updates, you should test it on a Staging/Test site before making changes to the Live site.

1. Download the extra plugin Fluid Checkout for WooCommerce – Moved features and install it on your website.
2. You will not see any changes to functionality or settings yet.
3. An admin notice will be displayed telling you that Fluid Checkout Lite 2.0+ is needed for Fluid Checkout for WooCommerce – Moved features. The plugins list should look like this:
   
4. Once Fluid Checkout Lite is updated to version 2.0 or greater, the moved features will keep working smoothly.
5. The admin notice will be removed and the plugins list should look like this:

What happens when I upgrade to Fluid Checkout PRO?

If you are using one of the moved features and installed the extra plugin Fluid Checkout for WooCommerce – Moved features, all features of the extra plugin will be disabled automatically, and an admin notice will appear telling you that you can deactivate and delete the extra plugin:
